Principal Kari Peterson has nearly 25 years of experience working in the community media field. She is presently working on projects related to examining and articulating the future of community media, and helping PEG and CMCs move effectively into that future.

She was the founding executive director of Davis Community Television in California and served in that capacity for over 20 years, through many technological and philosophical transitions. Kari has served on the national and regional boards of the Alliance for Community Media, and numerous national and regional committees.

She recently served as program coordinator for the Western Region's annual conference, "The Way Forward," a program which focused on the future of community media. She co-edited the Spring 2006 issue of Community Media Review, entitled, "On Beyond Access," a look at the factors and social conditions which lead us to contemplate the role of community media in a radically transforming communications environment. She enjoys consulting with community media organizations and public interest media organizations who are strategically evaluating their role in the 2.0 future. She writes grants, prepares commentary and speaks on these and related subjects. Finally, she is working to understand and integrate the exciting new social media tools and applications into her work and life.
